Idaho Transporting Firearms Laws (2026)
Permitted: In Idaho you may carry a handgun concealed in a motor vehicle without a license, loaded or unloaded, as long as you are legally allowed to have a gun.
In Idaho you may carry a handgun concealed in a motor vehicle without a license, loaded or unloaded, as long as you are legally allowed to have a gun. Idaho State Police says non-residents carrying concealed must hold a valid state-issued permit, so a visitor without one should keep the handgun unloaded and in a case. The Idaho Attorney General's office says a handgun carrier must also be at least 18 and a U.S. citizen or current U.S. military member. Do not carry concealed while intoxicated or under the influence. Firearms are banned on school property, but an adult over 18 who is not a student may keep one secured and locked in a vehicle there.
