  • MontanaConditional

Suppressors are legal in Montana, where simply possessing one is not a crime. Under MCA 45-8-336 it is an offense only if the suppressor is possessed "with the purpose to use it to commit an offense." Suppressors registered under the federal National Firearms Act (NFA) are lawful, and hunting with sound-reduction devices is allowed.

  • NevadaConditional

Suppressors are legal in Nevada when they are federally authorized. NRS 202.350 makes possessing a silencer a category C felony "unless authorized by federal law," and subsection 6 exempts anyone licensed or authorized under federal law, so a suppressor registered under the federal National Firearms Act (NFA), with an ATF tax stamp, is lawful.

  • OregonConditional

Suppressors are legal in Oregon once they are registered with the federal government. ORS 166.272 makes possessing a silencer a Class B felony unless it is registered under federal law, and that registration under the National Firearms Act (NFA) is a complete affirmative defense. You complete the process with an ATF Form 4 and the $200 stamp.

  • UtahConditional

Suppressors are legal in Utah, which has no state ban — they are lawful items under the federal National Firearms Act (NFA), obtained with an ATF Form 4 and the $200 stamp. Hunting with a suppressor is allowed: the Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) big-game prohibited-weapons list does not include suppressors.

  • WashingtonConditional

Suppressors are legal in Washington once they are registered with the federal government. RCW 9.41.250 criminalizes only the use of an unregistered suppressor. Washington's hunting rules (WAC 220-414) contain no suppressor prohibition, so hunting with a registered suppressor is allowed.
