Arizona Transporting Firearms Laws (2026)
Conditional: At 21 or older, if you may lawfully possess a handgun, you may carry it loaded in your vehicle, openly or concealed, with no permit.
At 21 or older, if you may lawfully possess a handgun, you may carry it loaded in your vehicle, openly or concealed, with no permit. Ages 18 to 20 may not carry it concealed on the body or hidden within reach, unless they hold an Arizona military-service permit. Otherwise it must be partly visible, or in a case, holster, scabbard, pack or luggage, kept in the glove box, a storage compartment, map pocket or trunk. Another state's permit does not help under 21. On K-12 school grounds the gun must be unloaded and stay in the vehicle; if you leave, lock the vehicle and keep the gun out of sight.

- CaliforniaConditional
Without a California carry license, a handgun in a vehicle must be unloaded and locked in the trunk or in a locked container. The glove box and utility compartments do not count, even when locked, so do not rely on a center console. An out-of-state permit changes nothing. When you carry the handgun to or from the vehicle, it must stay unloaded and inside a locked container. The exemption is written for U.S. citizens over 18 who may lawfully have a firearm.

- New MexicoPermitted
You may keep a loaded handgun, even concealed, in your private vehicle for lawful protection if you are not prohibited from having firearms. No license is needed for that. Once you step out, carrying it concealed on your person needs a license New Mexico accepts. People under 19 generally cannot possess a handgun.
