PermittedNo permit is needed in Nebraska at 21 or older, for residents and visitors, if you are not a prohibited person. This has been the law since September 2, 2023. People under 21 may not carry concealed, except those 18 or older who are armed forces members or peace officers. Optional Nebraska permits start at age 21. Since July 18, 2026, you may not enter the State Capitol with a firearm or a knife with a blade over 3.5 inches unless you have prior State Patrol approval, or you hold a Nebraska concealed handgun permit and carry the handgun concealed.
Effective July 18, 2026 (LB 1237): weapons are banned inside the Nebraska State Capitol; carrying a concealed handgun there requires a valid Concealed Handgun Permit — permitless carry does not apply in the Capitol.
