Consumer-grade fireworks (including aerials) are legal to buy and use statewide in Michigan, but a local ordinance may limit the hours. Local governments cannot regulate the sale, storage, transport or distribution of fireworks, but may regulate the hours of ignition and use — except they cannot restrict use after 11 a.m. on these protected days: December 31 (until 1 a.m. January 1), the Saturday and Sunday before Memorial Day, June 29–July 4, July 5 when it falls on a Friday or Saturday, and the Saturday and Sunday before Labor Day — each until 11:45 p.m. Outside those windows a local ordinance may apply, carrying a $1,000 civil fine per violation (MCL 28.457).

  • OhioConditional

Since the 2022 law (R.C. 3743.45, effective July 2022), Ohioans may discharge 1.4G consumer fireworks, including aerials, on specified holidays — unless their local subdivision (city, village, township, or county) has banned or restricted them. Many Ohio communities have opted out, making it a local-option state.

  • WisconsinConditional

Wisconsin permits sparklers and listed novelties without a permit; anything that explodes or leaves the ground requires a local user's permit — so most aerials and firecrackers are conditional on local approval (Wis. Stat. 167.10).
