Fireworks Dates & Times in states bordering Kentucky

  • Illinois has no statewide season: novelties and sparklers are legal year-round where they are not banned locally, while true consumer fireworks need a local permit — apply about 15 days ahead — and are allowed only on approved dates and at approved locations. Municipalities may bar fireworks entirely — Chicago, for example.

  • IndianaConditional

In Indiana, consumer fireworks may be used year-round from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. — until midnight on certain state holidays — subject to local ordinance. Times that local rules cannot restrict include June 29 to July 3 and July 5 to July 9 (5 p.m. until two hours after sunset), July 4 (10 a.m. to midnight), and December 31 into 1 a.m. on January 1.

  • MissouriConditional

Missouri does not set discharge or use times by statute — they are governed locally, and many cities limit discharge to around July 1 to 4 with hour curfews and may ban it. The state sets only the retail sale season: June 20 to July 10 and December 20 to January 2 (RSMo 320.106).

  • OhioConditional

In Ohio, statewide discharge is allowed only on a set list of days and times: July 3 to 5 plus the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before and after July 4; the Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Juneteenth weekends; Cinco de Mayo, Diwali, and Chinese New Year; and New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Local subdivisions may further restrict or ban it.

  • TennesseeConditional

For 2026 only, Tennessee extended the fireworks selling season: sales run June 10–July 10, September 1–10, and December 10–January 3, with the law repealing on February 1, 2027. The normal windows — June 20–July 5 and December 10–January 2 — return in 2027. Year-round permitted retailers also exist. Local governments may still restrict or ban use entirely; Nashville and Knoxville both prohibit it citywide.

  • VirginiaConditional

Virginia sets no statewide date window for permissible fireworks — they may be used year-round, subject to local rules — but localities set their own ordinances and several, such as Henrico and Chesterfield, prohibit even permissible fireworks. Check the specific city or county.

  • West VirginiaConditional

West Virginia sets no statewide date restriction — consumer fireworks may be sold year-round and used any time with the property owner's permission — but municipalities and counties may restrict the days and hours or ban them.
