A Connecticut permit is required for a handgun in a vehicle; out-of-state permits are not honored. Without one, it is a class D felony. State law exempts only listed trips, such as moving an unloaded firearm in or through the state for competitions, training, repair or collectors' meetings, and only for U.S. residents allowed to carry in their home state. The vehicle statute has no visitor exemption, so the stricter reading applies. The firearm must be unloaded and out of reach from the passenger area, or in a locked container (not the glove box or console) if there is no separate compartment.
