North Carolina statewide rule
NC general state sales tax is 4.75%; counties add local (and some transit) rates, so combined rates are 6.75%-7% in most counties, 7.25% in Wake, 7.5% in Durham and Orange, and 8.25% in Mecklenburg (which added a 1% local tax effective July 1, 2026), per NCDOR's official county rate table.
