  • Levied by the parish/local political subdivision where the property sits — millages are set locally. Residential property is assessed at 10% of fair market value; the homestead exemption covers $7,500 of assessed value ($75,000 of market value) and applies to non-municipal taxes (municipal taxes only in Orleans Parish). Qualifying homeowners 65+ or disabled can freeze their assessed value; the Louisiana Tax Commission oversees assessments. Varies by parish.

  • Property tax is assessed and collected locally. County assessors set your property's market value, apply a classification percentage to reach assessed value (19% for residential), then local taxing districts apply their levies, so rates vary by county and district.

  • Tennessee has no state property tax; the county assessor appraises property, a state-set assessment ratio is applied (residential and farm at 25% of appraised value, commercial/industrial at 40%), and the county commission sets the local tax rate per $100 of assessed value.

Texas levies no state property tax - the Comptroller neither collects property tax nor sets rates. Property is appraised by local appraisal districts and taxed by local units (school districts, counties, cities, special districts), which set the rates. Questions go to your local appraisal district or tax assessor-collector.
