No permit is needed to have a handgun in a private vehicle if you are 21 or older and may legally possess firearms. It may be loaded, except on school and child care facility grounds, including their parking areas, where a firearm in a vehicle is allowed only in narrow cases. Having a firearm on you or in a vehicle you are in while impaired by alcohol or drugs is a crime. If a weapon is concealed on you when an officer contacts you, you must tell the officer at once.
