California Current Fire Restrictions (2026)
Conditional: LawLert has been unable to re-read CAL FIRE's burn-status table since September 27, 2026 (CAL FIRE's site blocks LawLert's automated reader), so the county figures below are the last LawLert could confirm, not today's — check burnpermit.fire.ca.gov/current-burn-status before you burn.
LawLert has been unable to re-read CAL FIRE's burn-status table since September 27, 2026 (CAL FIRE's site blocks LawLert's automated reader), so the county figures below are the last LawLert could confirm, not today's — check burnpermit.fire.ca.gov/current-burn-status before you burn. CAL FIRE has SUSPENDED residential outdoor (debris) burning across most of California's State Responsibility Area: as of its official burn-status table read September 14, 2026, 45 of the 56 counties CAL FIRE lists are marked "Burning Suspended", with no end date announced. Suspensions took effect on a rolling basis — Tulare April 25; Inyo, Mono, Monterey, Riverside, San Benito, San Bernardino and San Diego May 1; San Luis Obispo May 4; Madera, Mariposa and Merced May 22; much of the north state and Sierra June 15; and Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, Santa Clara and western Stanislaus June 29. Burning is still allowed WITH A PERMIT in six counties — Fresno, Kern, Kings, San Mateo, Santa Cruz and Sutter — and there only on a permissive burn day (confirm with your local air district; the numbers are on your permit). Los Angeles, Marin, Orange, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties are administered locally — check that county's fire agency. Campfires in organized campgrounds and propane/LPG stoves remain allowed; fireworks are barred on public land statewide, and BLM/USFS units carry their own Stage 1/2 restrictions. Confirm your county on CAL FIRE's current burn-status page.
